With 2020 behind us, we wanted to look back at last year and share our top articles of 2020. Unsurprisingly, most of our top read articles from 2020 centre around COVID-19 and its impact on the industry, but this hasn’t stopped us at Summit. We held webinars with some amazing speakers and brands, we welcomed new starters across the business, and we kept our Summit values and spirit alive throughout.

Even before COVID-19 the way consumers shopped was changing, but COVID-19 seemed to speed this change along. This meant that brands had to refocus and try to future proof their brand and proposition as soon as possible. Amid the early stages of the pandemic, our client strategy director, Adrienne Burns, takes a closer look at the biggest challenges for retailers and clients during this time.
In October we hosted the first webinar in our Change is Now series, aimed to help retailers and brands understand how they could peak in a pandemic- and this is definitely still relevant today. We kicked off the series with our Managing Director, Martin Corcoran, as host and he was joined by Lisa Hooker and Jacqueline Windsor, both Partners at PwC, and Mona Nikzad, Digital & E-commerce Strategist at Organix for a great discussion. Check out the video in the link if you missed it!
To help celebrate 20 years as Summit, we wanted to create something special that all our Summiteers would enjoy. The result? A Summiteer playlist crafted by Summiteers. We gave them a year between 2000 and 2020 and asked them to pick their favourite track from that year. And from the absolute classics to the great unknown, what an amazing mix of songs we received. Click the link to have a listen to over 75 minutes of Summiteer favourites!
Before our Change is Now series was launched later in 2020, we held some smaller events to discuss the current state of retail. On 23rd July, we hosted an online breakfast festival to bring industry leaders together to share their insights, success stories and predictions to help brands navigate the turbulent times of 2020.
As lockdown continued, we were lucky enough to add some new Summiteers to our ranks. Virtually starting a new job and joining a company must be hard, but it seems to be the new normal during the pandemic. At Summit, we make the experience as fun as possible and they all quickly become part of the Summit family. In this piece, Abbie reflects upon her first few weeks with us and lets us know what it’s like to start a new job during lockdown.
A little something from a time before COVID-19 (at least almost, in England). We looked at the best Valentine’s Day marketing activity in 2020 to see who had done it well and with Valentines 2021 only just around the corner, this is a good one to revisit!
Back in March, we were saying, “surely it will be over by Christmas”… but there we were in October discussing how different peak will be this year because of the pandemic. Take a look back at what we predicted around customer shopping behaviour and see whether the predictions came true.

One thing was certain though; consumer behaviour and needs had changed. Still relevant almost a year later, read more about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to help you understand what motivates consumer behaviour.
