Having recently joined Summit to work in our new home in Golden Square, when I told my friends that I was taking a three-hour train from Kings Cross to attend a work Christmas party I was met with slightly confused looks. “Oh, you’re having drinks at your office. How nice.” – most of them would say with that suspicious gaze and the grimacing emoji smile 😬.
What comes to mind when conjuring up an image of a typical ‘work Christmas party’? Maybe a completely forgettable bar or club in Soho, with an unpronounceable hipster name. Perhaps a fancy-dress party with some awkward Christmas music, and Barry gyrating silently in the corner because he’s had too many jaeger bombs? Well, that’s NOT what you get at Summit.
At Summit, we are Changemakers. We believe in thinking differently. We make this possible through our amazing teams, who always go the extra mile. Every Summit event is a unique experience. The words “expect the unexpected” and “wow” are regularly uttered in this context. Our events team work tirelessly to plan and deliver our unique Christmas party experience. They make the unbelievable happen, and the evening a night to remember.
Up until the night of the Christmas party, you see the events team walking through the corridors at Summit’s home in Albion Mills, coming up with creative ways to beat last year’s event, and all the while keeping secret their grand reveal for the night. When the Christmas party day arrived, it became clear why Summit’s motto is relevant to not only how we work with clients, but also our team values: “We win together, we lose together”.
This year’s Christmas party theme was based on the legendary American musical, Grease. Everyone seemed to get the memo, except for our Data Science team. Rebels to the core, they came dressed as Greek Gods (we assume they spent the night uttering theorems of Pythagoras, and discussing the latest machine learning algorithms, dressed in toga outfits).
As you entered the ‘Summit office’ hundreds of people who you work alongside daily, and instantly recognize, were now, completely un-recognisable. Everyone was clad in customized black T-Bird leather jackets and swinging 50s outfits. Hair styled to perfection!
Opting for one of the fancier drinks, a delicious red punch, I moved towards the main hall. This was the epicentre, complete with a stage for live performances and the perfect space to dance to Grease classics: Summer Nights, Sandy, and Cool Rider.
It was a heady mix of neon lights, punch served in red cups, punctuated by the experiential school bus and a retro car that were staged in the middle of the main hall. Where else would you see all of this, if not a Summit party?
Professional dancers, an amazing live band, and group dance-offs all followed suite. This was accompanied by delicious diner-themed food, served in the school bus installed outside of the main hall. Have you ever dreamt of taking a photo with John Travolta? Well, that was your chance: we had fifty of them that night!
