Google Penguin Update

What Is the Penguin Update?

Google released the first Penguin algorithm data refresh on Friday 25th May. Google Penguin aims to penalise  low quality sites, which contravene Google’s quality guidelines on web spam, while rewarding more relevant sites with stronger positions within the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP’s).

Potential Impact Level (High / Medium / Low)

This Google algorithm change has been deemed as a low level impact. The main reason is the number of searches that this have reported to have been affected is less than 0.1%, compared to when Google Penguin first launched on the 24th April 2012, which affected 3.1% of searches.

What Action is required?

Summit will continue to monitor our retailers SEO footprint to understand the impact against the competitors and identify the winners and losers from the Penguin updates.

In addition, Summit will continue to actively consult and produce quality and unique content on behalf of our retail clients to ensure the content meets Google quality guidelines, whilst remaining relevant for the user.
