Employee profile - Mark Skinner

Mark Skinner

Position: Client Manager

Job Description: I’m responsible for fulfilling client deliverables, as set out in briefs. I make sure that client activity is being developed in line with their goals and objectives.

Time at Summit: 1 year.

Interests: Rugby League, tennis, playing squash (badly), films and photography

What were you doing before joining Summit?

I worked for a small web development and online marketing company based in Leeds. My role was to manage web development and digital media projects, as well as paid and organic search accounts. I worked on projects for clients such as Leeds United, English Heritage and PQS Survey. In terms of paid search, I worked on accounts for Leeds City College, a large emergency plumbing firm based in London, and a number of boutique online jewellery and fashion shops.

Why did you decide to join Summit?

I had spent a few years working on small web marketing accounts with limited budgets and no real scope for development or new opportunities. Summit gave me the opportunity to work with clients such as Viking Direct, who have the resources to develop new ideas and strategies. They’re currently looking into behavioural retargeting.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I am working on the strategic restructure of Viking Direct's PPC account as well as the day to day management of their existing account. I manage the reporting of marketing activity to the client across all marketing channels including display, PPC and affiliates. I also manage the PPC account for Tech Depot, which is looking to maximise its ROI on a strict budget.

What has been the most rewarding part of your Summit experience?

Being given the independence to think and act strategically. I also get to work with a team who are prepared to ‘muck in’ and support each other when needed.

How have you developed personally since joining Summit?

I’m learning new ideas and practices on all web marketing channels. It’s also given me the confidence to make decisions on my own.

Is working at Summit what you first thought it would be like?

Working in The Wolds has been an interesting experience and I now have a better understanding of how other people want to develop themselves. I’ve never worked for a large company before and am surprised with the relaxed but hard working atmosphere in the office.
