We are looking for a Junior Statistician to join Summit Media’s expanding Insights team. The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in Maths or Statistics, with this position most likely being their first / second position following graduating. The role offers an exciting opportunity to understand customer behaviour and impact on strategic decisions for Summit Media’s clients. The main purpose of the Insight team is to:
- Analyse and interrogate client data to understand how customers behave
- Understand how customers interact with marketing channels prior to and following the purchasing a product
- Providing insight into the value of clients’ online marketing activity
Responsibilities will include:
- To grow and develop skills to interrogate data by helping with analytical projects that involve large and complex data sets
- Ability to work without close supervision; gathering and formatting data for projects
- To assist in the delivery of projects within Summit Media’s Insight team
- To build effective relationships with other members of the Insights and Client Management team
- Working with appropriate teams to develop actionable insights, ensure smooth communication and effective outputs from projects
- Ensure insight from projects is proactively shared with others internally
- Training internal staff and clients to use reporting systems/templates
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- An interest in pursuing a career in statistics, analytics, market research,
- A curiosity to understand people, trends and changes in behaviour using consumer level data analysis
- Numerate, with very strong analytical and IT skills
- Proactive approach to work and learning
- An eye for detail and a creative problem solver
- Strong project management skills (planning and organisation)

- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (actively listens and adapts communication style to the audience)
- Strong knowledge of Excel / developing and querying databases

- Open to change, responds flexibly to new challenges
- Keen to seek out new ways of doing things
- Experience of using Microsoft Office (especially Excel) to a high standard
Although not essential, it would be preferable that the candidate has:
- Familiarity with data mining techniques (e.g. regression analysis)
- Experience of SPSS, R or any other statistics software is highly desirable
- Proven interest/experience in delivering projects to set briefs and deadlines
- Previous experience/knowledge of online marketing in a retail context would be preferred.
The role is based at our East Yorkshire offices, but some travelling should be expected due to the locations of Summit’s clients.
